Our immune systems play a vital role in protecting our bodies from disease-causing microbes – including viruses such as the flu (1). Made up of various organs, cells and tissues, our immune systems are triggered by foreign invaders (1).

Anything that can trigger this immune response is called an antigen (1), including the flu virus. It’s our immune system’s job to keep antigens out or, failing that, seek out and destroy them (1).
