Our immune systems play a vital role in protecting our bodies from disease-causing microbes – including viruses such as the flu ⁽¹⁾. Made up of various organs, cells and tissues, our immune systems are triggered by foreign invaders ⁽¹⁾.

Anything that can trigger this immune response is called an antigen ⁽¹⁾, including the flu virus. It’s our immune system’s job to keep antigens out or, failing that, seek out and destroy them ⁽¹⁾.

So, what does our immune system look like? And how does it help us fend off the flu?
